What was Woodstock really like? This week marks the 50th anniversary of the iconic music festival in Upstate New York. The massive crowd overwhelmed organizers, who were forced to make the event free. Most recently, Woodstock 50 was canceled after months of setbacks, including losing sites at Watkins Glen and Vernon Downs. To celebrate the golden anniversary, we interviewed dozens of original Woodstock attendees to hear their own stories of peace, music, drugs, tragedy and more.

It took place from August th, and hosted an array of well-known artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Grateful Dead, Santana, Revival, and Janis Joplin for the people to enjoy. There were many performers at Woodstock who had thousands of people in the crowds cheering them on. However, there were also those who attended the festival to produce their own music and spread what they felt they wanted and needed with the other festival goers. To this day, Woodstock is still considered one of the largest gatherings for peace. The positive theme of the three-day music festival was all about love, freedom of expression, freedom of everything actually, and peace.

By Emily Chan For Mailonline. A series of iconic pictures taken by photographer Baron Wolman at Woodstock have been unveiled nearly half a century after the festival took place. The exhibition features a stylized photo of legendary rock 'groupie' Pamela Des Barres whose sexual partners are thought to include Mick Jagger, Keith Moon and even Woody Allen. One of Wolman's most powerful photos, simply called ', Strong', shows a sea of rockers stretching as far as the horizon at Woodstock A series of iconic pictures taken by legendary photographer Baron Wolman at Woodstock have been unveiled nearly half a century after the festival took place.
